Mr. Edwards manages the Community Association practice in the firm’s Sarasota office and serves as corporate counsel to hundreds of condominium, cooperative, mobile home and homeowners’ associations located in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and Highlands counties. Mr. Edwards is also one of only 190 attorneys statewide who is a Board Certified Specialist in Condominium and Planned Development Law.

In addition to his extensive experience as a Community Association lawyer, Mr. Edwards has trial and appellate experience in many areas of corporate and civil litigation, construction litigation, covenant enforcement, real estate and foreclosure law.

EXPERIENCE

As General Counsel for condominium, cooperative, mobile-home and homeowners’ associations, Mr. Edwards:

Drafts governing documents and amendments thereto;
Dispenses legal and practical advice to Board members regarding the day to day operation and management of community associations including resolution of disputes between community associations, owners, developers and governmental entities;
Prepares contracts, addendums and modifications and assists in contractual negotiation and contractual dispute resolution;
Gives legal advice regarding requirements of the association’s governing documents and the laws regarding elections, financial operations, insurance, assessment collection and maintenance, repair and replacement; and
Prepares and advises clients on election issues and disputes, Board meetings and membership meetings.
PROFESSIONAL / COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Mr. Edwards is an active member of the Community Association Institute and serves on its Education Committee where he is a frequent lecturer on all aspects of community association law. Mr. Edwards is also a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section of the Florida Bar and the American Bar Association.

Mary R. Hawk is a shareholder in the firm’s community association practice group and is based out of the firm’s Bradenton office. She has been practicing in the Sarasota/Bradenton area since 1998. Ms. Hawk focuses her practice in the areas of general representation and dispute resolution for condominium, homeowner, cooperative and mobile home associations. She is a Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator and Certified Arbitrator.

Ms. Hawk is a two-time past president of the Community Associations Institute West Florida Chapter and served nearly 9 years on its board of directors. She is a frequent speaker, continuing education provider, and writer on issues concerning community associations. She is a past president and Emeritus member of the Manatee American Inn of Court, and recipient of the Mark Lipinski Mentorship Award (2020). Ms. Hawk is a past chair of the Florida Bar 12th Circuit Grievance Committee and has served as a fee arbitrator on the Florida Bar Grievance Mediation and Fee Arbitration committee. Ms. Hawk is admitted to practice in Florida, Georgia, the United States Supreme Court, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the federal District Court for Middle District of Florida. She received her J.D. magna cum laude from Georgia State University College of Law. She has two bachelor’s degrees in journalism and fine arts.

Telese L. Zuberer is a shareholder and president of Icard Merrill. Her practice in the field of condominium and homeowner association law focuses on all issues surrounding the general business of the association corporations, as well as residential development and construction. Telese acts as general counsel to the community association clients by assisting in the day to day needs of the associations, including but not limited to:

She is an active member of the Sarasota and Manatee County Bars, The Manatee Inn of Court, Community Association Institute, and the Florida Association of Women Lawyers. She has also authored articles for various community association publications.

Telese was named to the list of 2021 Florida Super Lawyers. She was named in the Gulf Coast Business Review’s “Top 40 Under 40” in 2005. The Top 40 under 40 annually recognizes the top 40 business professionals under the age of 40 in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. She was also nominated in the spring of 2005 for the Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce Rookie Business Person of the Year for her contributions in founding McKay Law Firm, P.A. In 2007, Telese was nominated for the 2007 Small Business Person of the Year award. She was the president for West Florida Chapter of CAI in 2009 and served on the Board of Directors for six (6) years. CAI West Florida Chapter No Suitcasing Policy

CAI West Florida Chapter relies on the generosity of its sponsors and exhibitors, and in return strictly prohibits companies or individuals not registered as sponsors or exhibitors of a chapter event from soliciting sales or sales leads, offering or promoting goods or services at that event, or soliciting participants for their company's social activities. Non-exhibiting business partners may exchange their business cards only when asked.

Those violating this policy will receive an initial warning. If any further violation occurs, the violator may be charged the exhibitor sponsorship rate for that event in question, and/or the Executive Committee may take additional actions available to the Chapter, as it deems appropriate.

CAI West Florida Chapter Member Professionalism Policy

CAI West Florida Chapter operates upon mutual respect and professionalism among its members, and therefore has the following guidelines in place to promote the highest level of professional conduct and ethical behavior among its members.

The Chapter prohibits companies or individuals soliciting event attendees for their own or their company's employment or competing social activities, but does not prohibit an attendee from providing a business card to an individual who requests one.
The Chapter prohibits conduct by individuals toward others that could be reasonably interpreted by the recipient, or by the Chapter, as constituting unwelcome physical conduct, verbal conduct, or sexual harassment.

Violators of this policy will receive an initial warning. If the offending behavior reoccurs after a warning has been issued, the Executive Committee may take additional actions available to the Chapter as it deems appropriate, which may include, but is not limited to the ability to attend chapter events and if applicable, a formal complaint submitted to the CAI-National Designation Ethics Committee.
